About

This blog is where I compile all the stuff I'm currently interested in, which includes my obsession with DIY/crafts, clothes, nail polish, music, dyeing my hair, crocheting stuff for my facebook shop Hats and Things, and the occasional lulz-worthy photo. However IRL I'm a writer, musician, nerd and wife. I like this comic artist, The Boy.

500-daysofshelby asked: You should really do a video tutorial of a slouchy beanie for a guy. I've been Youtubing for one for weeks. /:

Actually, it’s really easy to make ANY hat pattern slouchy! Just add more rows to any pattern until it becomes long. Then, to prevent it looking like a sock on your head, add maybe 2 or 3 stitches to the VERY first row. That enlarges the hat diameter. That’s what creates the slouch, the length and increased size around the head. For example, this beanie pattern from Teresa: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KobDydvvmmU

I would just add a couple more stitches to the beginning number (the pattern calls for 10 single crochet stitches at first. To make it bigger, I use a size 6.00 mm hook and do 12 stitches, not 10). Then I just follow the pattern the rest of the way (keeping in mind that each succeeding row now has + 2 stitches)!

When I’m well into the hat, instead of stopping at the row number she suggests, I crochet until I have it about 10 or 11 inches long.

Voila, you have a slouchy, oversized hat for a guy that doesn’t look like the puffy girly version. Here’s a photo of a hat I did using the “Any pattern + more stitches in a row + more rows ” method:

Try it and see for yourself! :)
