Jad Montenegro is musician and all-around bag lady. She is the current host of Muzika del Sur News and previous host of rock show Durian Shake. She just released her EP called Fixed Points and Pendulums for her self-titled band, with bandmates Dave Ibao on drums and Pjoe Sabanpan on bass. She was awarded Best Pop Artist of The Year by Muzika Del Sur for 2009, and won Best Music Video for 2010. She is the vocalist of Polar Depth, an electronica/experimental band. Polar Depth was also given a special citation for Breakout Electronica Artist in 2009. To support her bad habits, like playing gigs for free and producing an indie album, she works from home as a writer. She is married to professional comic illustrator John Amor, a.k.a The Boy.
People find their convos funny.

She is not a professional blogger, but this is the space she compiles current obsessions in, like

DIY/crafts
clothes
nail polish
music
dyeing her hair
crocheting stuff for her facebook shop Hats and Things
and the occasional lulz-worthy photo.

Event Diary: Love, Loss, and Libido {LitOrgy 2013}

February 16th was the night of LitOrgy’s annual event, hosted by The Davao Writer’s Guild, involving poetry reading, performance art, monologues, and this year… a band performance (by us!).

Wrap documenting the goings-on

I read one of my memoirs before my band came onstage

My band performs 3 of our originals from both 1st and 2nd EP

After the event, goofing off with Marky

My outfit was… stellar.

MtG everywhere!

The organizers Karla, Allen, Julian and Chi.

LitOrgy’s Love, Loss and Libido was definitely a different sort of event, a little more subtlety, a little more reading between the lines than a regular gig. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Props to the organizers for pulling it off successfully. I’m looking forward to next year’s!

xx Jad

OHAI~I’m going to be doing circle lens reviews from now on, so I’m trying out a self portrait lighting setup that works for this sort of thing. I think this is pretty good, just having a hard time focusing on myself with a MANUAL lens! Yes. I have to pre-focus it before I take a picture! I’m glad I have a remote, or it’d be even harder, lol.
I would have preferred using my Geo Contact Lenses in Angel Brown to test out this lighting, but I can’t find them so I just put on these guys, which I passed by in EO Executive Optical at SM and bought on a whim. I was getting clear contacts (my eyes are legit broke, all my contacts need to have a grade), but the lady asked me if I wanted to try their Colorflex series. This color is called Peppermint. Comfort-wise, ithey’re ok, but I tend to feel sleepy/eyes get itchy after about 6 hours. They were about P550 but they only last 3 months, so, you might as well get a Dueba/Girly series for P600. They last a year! Also I added a few colors to the bottom layers of my hair and that makes me a happy panda. ♥

When I opened my inbox on facebook, this was what greeted me last week, with an invitation from Ate Ria.

Hi Jad! I would like to invite you and all your Tumblr/blogger friends to the Davao Bloggers Acquaintance Party and Induction of Officers. It’s on April 9, 2012, 2 pm - 6 pm at the Royale House Inn. The details of the event are at this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/411191505561008/. Hope you and your Tumblr/artist friends can be part of our blogger events. Ria Jose Founding President, Davao Bloggers

Awesome! If you guys are from Davao, and you would like to meet other Davao Bloggers, please feel free to attend this event. It’s an opportunity to meet people who think like you, get excited about the same upcoming events, and keep up on the same trends. Even if your lifestyle is completely unique and you have nothing in common with other bloggers (which I think is impossible), it’s still rewarding to meet the other denizens of the Internet. Think of it as exchanging links, but IRL. Okay IDK, lol.Hope to see you there! <3

Hiphouse 2.0: 80’s Cheese Night/Tine’s Birthday (PICTURE HEAVY!)

So the 2nd Hiphouse event was more low-key than the first one, since it was partly to celebrate our NFF Tine’s birthday and we wanted to relax from the first one. But it was by no means less colorful or loud, lol! In fact, the loudest thing about it was the color scheme - since everyone was asked to go in 80’s attire. Tin was celebrating her 25th birthday and was flying straight in from Manila to the party!

This was taken while I was getting dressed, for lookbook. I decided it was too tame so I went back and changed my hair and makeup, and added a ton of jewelry haha

I chose to wear my loud polka print shirt again, with red plastic hoop earrings (that’s about as 80’s as it gets, lol!)

Also necessary was bright lime eyeshadow, hot red lipstick and outrageous eyelashes. And 80’s bangs and lots of hair clips :P

Turquoise necklace (which I wear no matter what outfit I’m wearing, lol)

Tacky rhinestone studded purple gem ring

Red animal print creepers, knee-length football socks from high school, red and turquoise wooden bangles, messily painted bright red nails

On to the party pics! (PICTURE HEAVY!) Taken with my IXUS 130:

Can you guess what Hayao Miyazaki film we’re watching?

Jaimee & Cat, lovely ladies I had a long chat with! <3

Maki with his superfly short shorts lol. Colorful glasses and drinks. And we drank mostly soda, so there.

Our kids are going to be so confused when we tell them this photo was taken in 2012.

Girls just wanna have fun - Cyndi Lauper

I can hear the anti-hipster tumblr going: “WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU’RE NOT A CHRISTMAS TREE STOP THAT” lol

Me with the other half of the masterminds of HipHouse, Cheekie @humminginmyhead. Love this woman forever.

Can you see how awesome mandy’s gray hair is? It looks purple in some photos but it’s gray, I tell you!

Brian looking spiffeh in his 80’s denim outfit

Karla in eye-burning fuschia

Migs in a Tom Cruise outfit, doing a Jack Nicholson smile. I’d say he’s got the 80’s covered

Bagsy, who played These Dreams on a keyboard. LOVE IT!

Can I just have Sheff’s hair? Why must it be so long and LUXURIOUS

No idea what Pjoe’s drawing on Bagane, but it looks ticklish!

I think it’s safe to say that Tine had an awesome first night in Davao, right? Haha! Love you Tine! Happy Birthday!
